There is a revolution taking form that is significantly influencing how the western medical community views health and disease. Unless we can measure something, science won’t concede it exists, which is why science refuses to deal with such “nothings” as the emotions, the minds, the soul or the spirit. Measurement is the foundation of the modern scientific method, the means by which the material world is admitted into existence.

When both the therapist and recipient believe that a particular modality is the best answer for the problem, there is a belief system set in motion that will undoubtedly have success.

Healing with plans and plant derived substances has been in existence for at least 5000 years. Herbology has been emerging as a great therapy of vast interest and promise in the past 30 years. We are seeing a rise of alternative medicine modalities, whereas people want freedom of choice to direct one’s choice of health without relying upon well financed and highly profitable pharmaceuticals and conventional technology.

This new technology has allowed for traditional medicine to understand itself by finding the how’s and the why’s of the complexity of different modalities. Here are some examples of modalities used in the past, present and will be in the future.

A) Essential Oils if the volatile lipid (oil) soluble portion of he fluids of a plant containing odiferous compounds produced by steam distillation of vegetable plant matter. This would include any part of a botanical species including: stems, branches, fruits, flowers, seeds, roots, bark, needles, leaves, etc. Essential oils serve the needs of plants before they serve us. What they do for us, they have already practiced on plans, thus they come to us as experienced helpers and healers. (Stewart, page 51) Therapeutic grade essential oils resonate with coherent frequencies which enables them to bring order back to a disordered, diseased body and mind. (Stewart, page 200)

B) Peptides in the body: Molecules of Emotion is a molecule found on the surface of cells in body and brain called the opiate receptor. (Pert, page 20) This receptor is a single molecule, perhaps the rarest and complicated kind of molecule there is. All receptors are proteins and they cluster in the cellular membrane waiting for the right chemical to get through the extra cellular fluid and “fitting” into their individual “keyholes” which is called binding. Peptides are chemicals which play a wide role in regulating practically all life processes and are in the other half of the equation of what Candace Perk likes to call Molecules of Emotion. Peptides are made up of strings of amino acids. Visualize this: If the cell is the engine that drives all life, then the receptors are the buttons on the control panel of that engine, and specific peptides is the finger that pushes that button and when the button is pushed, the whole process gets started.

C) Traditional Chinese Medicine is a pre-scientific system of thought and practice developed over thousands of years. It is a form of logical, rational thinking and is deeply rooted in a philosophy that has developed its own perception of the body, health and disease. TCM uses different methods than Western/Scientific ways to discover what is ailing the body and to help it heal. It is seeing the relationship of the symptom ~ to the whole body. For the Chinese, the body has no weaver; no creator. In the west, the final concern is the result or symptom. They focus on the branch and the root cause. The West treats what is ailing the patient; the East finds the root cause and slowly breaks down the walls by treatment to get the real issue. (This could be an emotionally caused disease). The difference here from today’s medicine is that the doctors today view the issue at hand and treat, while the Natural Medicine Doctors try to view the whole body as one and treats is with a holistic approach. This holistic approach could include acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition, herbs, exercise and non-invasive techniques for healing.

D) Flower Essence Therapy is a form of vibrational medicine in which the vibrational signatures of flowers are imprinted on spring water by sunlight in the morning. Flower essence therapy is primarily a therapy of the should. All of the 38 Bach Flower Essences are specific for emotional conditions. All but one is based on single wild flowers or tree blossoms. The exception, Rock Flower, is made from the water of natural spring with healing properties. The flower essence therapist must take into account how change is grounded and stabilized in the body and how it is freed and illuminated through the spirit (Kaminski & Katz, page 87) Bach Flower Essences encourage the body’s own healing process by restoring and maintaining emotional balance and clarity. It’s a medical fact that emotional stress impacts health and well being. Doctors, psychologists and healthcare professionals often diagnose stress as an underlying cause of physical problems.

Seek the outstanding mental conflict in a person,
Give them the remedy that will overcome that conflict
And all the hope and encouragement you can.
Then the virtue within them will do all the rest.
Treat the cause not the effect

Dr. Edward Bach

E) Chelation therapy is a series of intravenous infusions containing disodium EDTA (Some ligands can bond to a metal atom using more that two pairs of electrons. An example is ethylenediamminetetraacetate ion (EDTA4), forms very stable complexes with most of the transition metals and various other substances). Proponents claim that EDTA chelation therapy is effective against atherosclerosis and many other serious health problems. Its use is widespread because patients have been led to believe that it is a valid alternative to estaQuantum Touchblished medical interventions such as coronary bypass surgery. However, there is no scientific evidence that this is so (8). As a master herbalist, I would recommend it to my clients as a most effective natural treatment and prevention for cardiovascular disease. Chelation Therapy helps remove harmful substances and eliminate them from the circulatory system. It is available in 2 forms: intravenously (as mentioned above) and orally. People find oral chelation more convenient and just as effective.

F) Quantum Touch is an energy technique using life-force energy that uses light touch without physical manipulation. While this therapeutic haling technique can be used along it also enhances all healing modalities, energy and body work techniques. Modern science tells us that the human organism is not just a physical structure, that, like everything else, we are also composed of energy fields. (Brennan, page 20) The practitioner focuses and amplified life-force energy, which is most often referred to as Qi “Chi” or “prana”. This is accomplished by combining various breathing and body awareness exercises. When the practitioner holds a high vibrational field (frequency) of life-force energy around an affected area, though a process of resonance and entrainment, the client naturally matches the vibration of the practitioner, allowing one’s own biological intelligence to do whatever healing it deems necessary.

Love is a vibrational frequency; in fact it is one of the highest. Our vibrations automatically rise as we begin living and loving unconditionally. We begin to take responsibility for creating our own health, wealth and happiness.

G) Lifestyles ~ optimum diet. Dr Andrew Weil states in his tapes that eating and lifestyles are what make you. You are what you eat! His view is to aim for a variety and include as much fresh food as possible in the diet. Minimize the consumption of processed and fast food. East an abundance of fruits and vegetables, and try to include carbohydrates, fat and protein in every meal. Most adults need to consume between 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day. Woman and smaller, less active people require fewer calories; men and larger, more active people need more calories. The distribution of calories taken should be: 40% to 50% from carbohydrates, 3% from fat and 20 to 30% from protein. Dr. Weil’s way is a) Meditation, b) nutrition, c) diet and d) exercise. Without eating and proper exercise, the body cannot function properly from the inside out. The energy field depletes itself and with the outside forces i.e.: pollution, noise, and stress, the body brakes down and gets sick and/or diseased. It is very important to stay healthy, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

H) FDA ~ The Food and Drug Administration is the “over looker” of all medicine (which is only one of their components) in the country. They are in control of all pharmaceutical drugs created for the health of our society in the U.S. The FDA influences which drugs are used throughout society, by only approving certain pharmaceutically made drugs. If the FDA doesn’t pass a certain drug, then society cannot take or administer it.

The new complexity of understanding the process of everything which God has put on this earth as his creation, has allowed us to use formulas in the experimental factor. Becoming attuned with the plants to understand why the plants have these special features and how we can as humans, use them to create the proper blends to help prevent certain diseases. Diseases transform because of the environment that humans are destroying and/or changing on a daily basis.

Many people believe that herbal remedies are safe because of their nature. There are herb/oil/remedies which, when taken, can cause many side effects whether it has been taken internally or used externally on their body. ALL HERBS ARE TOXIC IN EXCESS and can cause unpredictable reactions when mixed with other herbs and/or medication. For example, Essential Oils are concentrated and one should never put directly on the skin. This should be mixed with carrier oil (diluted) to prevent a reaction to the body.

Think of herbs in terms of improving health rather than curing ailments. Used regularly and in moderation as part of a balanced diet and lifestyle, herbs can boost immunity and give a sense of well being. (Green, page 41)

The Future of Natural Medicine depends mainly on a BELIEF system. If the patient doesn’t believe natural cures will help, then it probably will not. The patient will not take the medicine at the appropriate time and/or at a level to be able to help him/her, most people, who get ill, want a cure NOW! The people don’t look at their surroundings to see why/how they have gotten this disease. They forget to look at everyday stress, pollution, emotions. Below is a chart that compares natural medicine of herbs to pharmaceutical drugs (Green, page 300)

 HERBSDRUGS
Action Often multiple  Usually just one (often using a single specific receptor site)
Often enhances body’s own healing abilitiesNo drug does this
Addresses casual factors of an illness  Mostly treats symptoms (can be life-saving in a crisis/emergency)
Active ConstituentsMany (synergistic) Usually one
Side Effects Few and mildOften many, can be severe
Onset of ActionMay be slow (working on a nutritional level) Usually rapid and direct
CostVariable (you can make your own) Variable

One of the solutions of understanding the drug-drug and the drub-herb interactions is to recognize potential interactions and to take proper actions to prevent their occurrence. Know your drugs. Use the information that is accessible to you through books and websites.

As you can see both plays a very important role in modern day health care and disease control. Both provide excellent serviced to humans and non-humans when used with a clear mind, compassionate heart, and a healer’s intent.

As a natural healer, you must clearly educate the patient and clearly advise and direct the patient to self educate as to the risks and benefits of both types of medications. The motto for a natural healer is: DO NOT HARM, BE THANKFUL TO GOD FOR YOUR GIFT and THAT HE IS ALL-KNOWING. Lastly my motto, Live, Love and Laugh. Life is too short not to enjoy.

My future as a Master Herbalist will be to take all the knowledge which I have accumulated and all the different modalities that are available to me and create an environment for myself and my clients to try and live by. To craft and unite the modalities, unique to the client so that whatever their ailments, challenges and issues, will help them, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to be a healthy human being.

It took human kind until the 19th century to figure out that the secret compounds of life are chains and rings. Man can try to imitate Gods creates in factories and labs, but in the end, only God can create all things. We must learn to respect that, in order to receive their benefits.

I conclude from my research that the future of Natural medicine will grow to be the primary source of health solutions for all humanity.

THE CREATOR IS CONSCIOUSNESS AND CONSCIOUSNESS IS LOVE
